Salem's Lay Leaders are Charles J. Morton and John J. Dancey.
Both Charles and John are recognized Christ Servant Ministers, a title that is given after specialized training is completed that is provided by the United Methodist Church or a recognized training affiliate.
They first became Local Church Servants, a designation in which volunteerism, participation in church activities and a desire to further the Word of Christ is required. This training consists of classes and interactive discussion that furthers the gifts that have been bestowed upon them through the Holy Spirit.
In the ten hour introductory course, the Local Church Servant candidate learns about the need for servant ministries in our world and how his or her gifts can be used to be a better servant for Christ.
Each year the Local Church Servant submits a report to the Church Charge Conference that indicates the results of the past year's ministry and continued study and growth.
After becoming a Local Church Servant, many continue the journey and become a Christ Servant Minister.
Those desiring to become a Christ Servant Minister get the recommendation of their pastor and the Administrative Church Council/Board and participate in additional training beyond the Basic Course.
Once this training is completed, the individual is recognized in the Eastern Pennsylvania Annual Conference Journal as a Christ Servant Minister. This recognition continues as long as the Christ Servant Minister submits an Annual Report that is approved by the Local Church Charge Conference and the Christ Servant Minister continues to participate a minimum of ten hours of advanced training at least once every three years.
